The 2021 Tokyo Olympics will be among the most distinct in history, not only for the limitations placed on it due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also because of the pure volume of content and coverage planned by NBC Universal.
That starts with the opening ceremony in Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium and includes coverage of all 41 sports, 339 medal events and ceremonies.
As with all Olympic Games, the coverage culminates with the closing ceremony. Though it will lack the fanfare of previous iterations — thanks to no fan attendance — it will regardless cap the international two-week event, the first worldwide gathering since the pandemic began in March 2020.
Only time will tell about how the 2021 Olympics unfold. At least we know how to see how it all ends. With that, here’s everything you need to know about the Olympic closing ceremony — including time, date, TV channel and live stream options:
When do the Olympics end in 2021?
The 2021 Olympic Games will end on Sunday, Aug. 8 with the closing ceremony. That will occur at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday, or 8 p.m. local time in Tokyo. For those that don’t want to get up early, the event will be re-broadcast Sunday night in prime-time starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
How to watch the closing ceremony in USA
NBC’s coverage of the Olympic closing ceremony will be similar to its opening ceremony plan of action: It will broadcast the event live at 7 a.m. ET (4 a.m. PT) and re-broadcast it at 7:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. PT) on Sunday, Aug. 8.
Olympics closing ceremony live stream
Like pretty much the entire 2021 Tokyo Olympics, there are plenty of cordless options for people who want to watch the closing ceremony. Those include the NBC Sports app, NBC Olympics and fuboTV, which offers a seven-day free trial.
Olympics schedule 2021
Here’s a full breakdown of every live event the NBC family of networks will be showing during the Olympics. There will be plenty of other tape-delayed coverage throughout the event because of the 13-hour time difference between Tokyo and the Eastern time zone.
Events will be broadcast on NBC, USA, NBCSN, CNBC, Olympic Channel, Golf Channel and NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock.
