Serena – who turns 41 shortly after the event concludes next month – revealed she was set to 'evolve' to the next stage of her life and concentrate on other things.

In her retirement post, Williams wrote that she wasn't looking for any ceremonial moments on the court, insisting she wasn't good at goodbyes.

However, the 23-time major champion is set to be all over the coverage of the US Open when it starts later this month.

Whether it's just one match or a run to the title, the crowds and cameras are set to follow every step she takes.

Betfair reckon her leaving the with an almighty bang is unlikely, pricing her at 25/1 to taste victory one last time.

That is the same price as defending champion Emma Raducanu, who stunned the US crowds here last year.

And she did so at a much bigger 499/1 to win that time around.

Igoa Swiatek is the clear 9/4 favourite for victory, ahead of Naomi Osaka at 6/1.
