Americans on Twitter are gobsmacked at the UK's Poundland shop name, which they say carries a whole other meaning stateside.
The popular British discount store has caused fits of laughter on social media after an US author shared her horror at a photo of it in a retail park.
According to Margaret Owen, Poundland has an equivalent over the pond but unlike the American shop it can be interpreted as slang for a kingdom dedicated to sex.
Margaret's tweet on Tuesday has since been shared 13,000 times and liked over 110,000 times.
She captioned the snap of a Poundland: "Hi twitter I just learned that the UK edition of dollar tree is this and I may never recover."
From there a flurry of puns and innuendos followed on the thread.
Margaret added: "Brb drafting change dot org petition to rebrand the erotica section.
"Quick this is important, does poundland have a prime minister or a chancellor (I am American so I do not know the difference)
"I feel like “chancellor of poundland” hits harder, I would put that on my resume."

Judging by the huge response to her post, Margaret was not the only one stunned by the supermarket chain where most items are sold for £1 each.
When a Brit innocently asked what was so funny, an American was only too pleased to politely explain.
They said: "Because in our alternate reality version of your language, it implies to us some serious adult action is going down, and we all want a passport to this land."

Someone commented with a Google Maps image of a London shop called Pound Town, they said: "In London not far from where I am now, genuinely I don't think anyone will have ever made the connection to US slang, ever. i certainly didn't until I was told today…"
Jumping on the bandwagon someone poked fun at the name squirty cream, they captioned a photo of a Co-op own brand bottle: "Just wait until you see what they call whipped cream…"
The shop in itself was enough to baffle American Twitter users further. Laughing at their squirty euphemism, someone replied: "why cooperative?! why is this a team effort? WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH THE SQUIRTY CREAM?"
