A savage dog attack has killed a three-month-old baby girl following a late night incident in the woods.
The tragic incident happened at 11.15pm on Sunday at Ostler's Plantation in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, leading to the arrests of two adults.
Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man on suspicion of being in charge of a dog that was out of control and both remain in custody.
Members of the public have been asked by the police to refrain for speculating on social media how the fatal dog mauling unfolded, the Mirror reports.
Chief Supt Andy Cox said: “This is an exceptionally sad incident, and one that we know will impact the local community, or indeed anyone hearing about it.
"There may be a temptation to speculate about what happened while people attempt to understand this tragedy, and we’d ask people to avoid doing so, particularly on social media where facts can become distorted.
"We will do everything we can to establish what has happened, and we’d like to thank everyone for their support."
Ostlers Plantation is a popular activity destination for horse riding, cycling and in warmer temperatures picnics.
According to Forestry England, the area also boasts an abundance of wildlife and underground bunkers from the Second World War.
