The BBC meteorologist Ben Rich has predicted a mixed forecast for this May bank holiday which threatens to disrupt many Britains’ plans to enjoy meeting up outdoors. Mr Rich said showers are set to become widespread across much of the country today and Sunday. However, he also revealed the areas set to avoid the wet weather completely. Outdoor socialising on bank holiday Monday however faces a washout with the “wettest weather for quite some time,” he warned.

The BBC Weather presenter said: “It is sunshine and showers for this weekend Saturday and Sunday.

“That may disrupt your beer garden plans.”

For Saturday morning, he said: “A frosty start for some, a largely dry start but there are already some showers around.

“And the showers will become quite widespread into the afternoon, some heavy possibly thundery.”

Mr Rich continued: “But there will be big dry gaps in between those showers so you may avoid them completely and stay completely dry.

“It is going to be fairly cool throughout the afternoon between 8 and 14 degrees and certainly it will get chilly this evening.

“The showers will fade so we will see largely clear skies overhead.

“A few mist and fog patches around, a bit of patchy could but temperatures generally down towards freezing, just below for some.”

Turning to Sunday, the meteorologist forecasted another frost to start tomorrow morning.

He said: “Tomorrow is another sunshine and showers day, again some of the showers will be heavy.

“There will be places maybe the southwest of England, the southwest of Scotland don’t see too many showers.

“It is another cool feeling day,” he added.

The weatherman warned there was not great news for Bank Holiday Monday.

He told viewers on BBC: “An area of low pressure that is going to bring the wettest weather some of us have seen for quite some time.

“Some brisk winds as well.

“But another cool feeling day.”
