Body of missing doctor, 29, found in woods after she vanished at weekend

A body has tragically been found in the search for a Glasgow woman.

The sad discovery comes after doctor Cat Gaskell, 29, disappeared from her home in Fallow Grove in Cambuslang shortly before 8.00pm on Saturday night.

An online appeal was promptly launched by Cat's friends and loved ones before police issued a missing persons inquiry.

Now, officers have confirmed that a body has been found in the search for the GP.

Formal identification of the body has not yet taken place, but Cat's family has been informed.

According to police, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesperson said: "Around 10.45am on Monday, 16 August, officers searching for the missing woman discovered a body in a wooded area in Newton, Cambuslang.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of Catriona Gaskell has been informed.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

"Ms Gaskell's family has asked that their privacy be respected at this very distressing time."

Cat was seen walking into a wooded area near Red Deer Road after leaving her home.

Partner Robbie Thomson said yesterday: "(Cat) has been missing since last night. She left our house on foot at 8pm (I have Ring doorbell footage).

"Her family and friends haven't heard from her and police are involved. Looking to see if anyone from the estate has CCTV footage which might've picked her up at that time.

"She was wearing a light blue/grey jumper and had a shoulder strap handbag."

Cat's friend, Helen Fraser, added: "My beautiful best friend Cat Gaskell has gone missing from the Glasgow area.

"If anyone has seen her or has any information please let police or Robbie know. Love you so much and really hope you are safe."

Volunteer group SEVA Scotland wrote: "Our dear friend Dr Cat Gaskell is missing, she was last seen yesterday evening in the Newton Farm Cambuslang area.

"We are extremely concerned for her welfare and pray for her safe return, please help us by sharing and getting in touch as soon as possible if you have any information at all."
