Boulder police took a burglary suspect into custody Saturday morning, after the man was located in an elevator in a business in the 900 block of Walnut Street.

Dionne Waugh, the Boulder police spokesperson, said police and Boulder SWAT personnel responded to the 900 block of Walnut Street for a burglary call about 10:30 a.m. The 35-year-old suspect was reported to have been inside an elevator in a business. Just after 11 a.m., Waugh said the man had been arrested.

“I know people are seeing SWAT vehicles, but there are no threats to public safety,” Waugh said. “They have the tools to get him out safely from the elevator.”

Boulder police sent out a tweet about the incident, echoing this.

“They’re trying to get him out as quickly and safely as possible,” Waugh said.

Waugh said the man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, obstruction and criminal mischief. He was taken to the Boulder County Jail. She said she couldn’t yet release further details on what the reported burglary involved.

Boulder Fire-Rescue and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.
