A 15-year-old boy is said to have been seriously injured after he was stabbed earlier this afternoon and is in a "critical condition".

Police are responding to a third-party report of a teenager being stabbed in an assault in Woodhouse Hill, Huddersfield, with an air ambulance as well as several police cars spotted at the scene.

The stabbing is said to have taken place nearby to North Huddersfield Trust School, with a police cordon currently in place alongside emergency services.

Traffic management system Inrix reported that Woodhouse Hill is blocked off while emergency services respond to the stabbing of the 15-year-old boy.

A police statement read: "At 2.54pm this afternoon police received a third-party report that a teenager had been seriously injured in an assault in Woodhouse Hill, Huddersfield.

"Emergency services attended and a 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

"A police cordon has been put in place as enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances."

Councillor Amanda Pinnock has described the incident as "serious" while parents gathered at the scene of the stabbing at Woodhouse Hill.

One concerned parent, speaking to YorkshireLive, said: "It was a scary moment when I heard there had been trouble and a teacher answered my 14-years-old son’s phone. I understand he may have witnessed some of what happened at about 3.15pm.

"I was asked by staff to come and collect him. I’ve heard that it all came out of nowhere. This pupil was grabbed, pinned to the floor and stabbed repeatedly."

An air ambulance was reportedly spotted at the scene by attending locals, with one describing the incident as "shocking".

A mum-of-two at the scene said: "It makes you frightened to send your children to school. You send them to school to be safe. I heard he came out of school and was stabbed. It’s heartbreaking and shocking. What is the world coming to?".
