Brit woman ‘sexually assaulted’ while lying passed out in street in Majorca

A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a British woman while she lay unconscious in the street in a holiday hotspot on Majorca.

Several people are said to have witnessed the assault in the early hours of this morning in Playa de Palma on the Spanish island resort.

They called the cops and held the man alleged to have been responsible for the horror attack until officers arrived on the scene.

The woman, said to be a British tourist and aged around 50, was taken to a hospital.

Spanish newspapers say the attack happened around 3am in Miquel Pellisa street in the zone of Las Maravillas.

According to Diario de Mallorca, a number of people in the area saw the man assaulting a woman who was lying in the street and apparently unconscious. They intervened to stop the attack and a local police patrol rushed to the scene.

The woman's clothing had been tampered with and she was not responding, says the island newspaper.

Witnesses gave a description of the man and he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He is reported to be a German man in his 40s.

The man was taken to a police station for questioning whilst the woman was transferred to hospital.

Ultimahora.es says the attack was witnessed by "dozens of people" as the street was in a central part of the resort.

National cops have taken over the investigation.
