Britain is being singled out by Putin’s propagandists who have gleefully discussed on Russian state TV how the UK could be turned into a “radioactive desert” in a single nuclear strike.
Putin’s propaganda mouthpiece Dmitry Kiselyov described how two Russian super-weapons each had the capability to wipe the British Isles off the map.
Russia could obliterate the UK with its new hypersonic Satan-2 missile, he said.
Alternatively, Kiselyov boasted, Russia has the option to “plunge Britain into the depths of the sea” with its “underwater robotic drone Poseidon”.
This would “raise a giant wave, a tsunami, up to 500 metres [1,640ft] high”, he told viewers on his Vesti Nedeli talkshow.
The surging water – reaching almost halfway up Scafell Pike in the English Lake District – would contain “high doses of radiation”, turning what is left of Britain into a “radioactive desert”, he predicted.
The chilling threat was based on a lie told on Russian state media over the past week. The Russian public have been told Boris Johnson had threatened to carry out a nuclear strike on Russia without consulting NATO.
Downing Street last week dismissed this as “another example of disinformation peddled by the Kremlin,” but the lie continues to be parroted in Moscow.
Kiselyov said Britain – which has angered Moscow with its steady supplies of weaponry to Kyiv – would be no match for Russia in a nuclear confrontation.

Kiselyov added: “Why do they threaten vast Russia with nuclear weapons while they are only a small island?
“The island is so small that one Sarmat missile is enough to drown it once and for all…
“Russian missile Sarmat [aka Satan-2], the world most powerful…is capable of … destroying an area the size of Texas or England.
“A single launch, Boris, and there is no England anymore…why do they play games?”

Kiselyov went on: “Another option to plunge Britain into the depths of the sea is the Russian underwater robotic drone Poseidon.
“It approaches the target at a one kilometre depth with the speed of 200 kilometres per hour [125mph]. There is no way to stop this underwater drone. It has a warhead with a capacity of up to 100 megatons. The explosion of this thermonuclear torpedo close to Britain's shores will raise a giant wave, a tsunami, up to 500 metres [1,640ft] high.
"This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation. Surging over Britain, it will turn what is probably left of them into radioactive desert, permanently unusable for anything".

He reminded viewers that Putin had warned of terrible consequences for any country that interfered in his invasion of Ukraine.
The Sarmat hypersonic 208-ton ’Satan-2’ intercontinental ballistic missile has a speed of 15,880mph and is claimed by the Kremlin leader to be “unstoppable”.
It is due to be deployed in the Autumn.
The Poseidon – also being readied for service – is described as a giant nuclear-capable torpedo.
Details of its high-speed 125 mph underwater propulsion system of the atomic powered underwater drone are regarded as top secret.
Putin has boasted that it has an “unlimited range”, and said three years ago: “Work is going according to plan.”

Defence minister Sergei Shoigu also said in 2019 that sea tests had been successfully completed.
"Unique characteristics of the Poseidon system will help the Navy to successfully combat aircraft carriers and strike groups of a potential adversary in any oceanic theatre of war and destroy shore infrastructure facilities," warned chief analyst of the General Staff, Admiral Igor Katasonov.
However, there are also claims of delays and that it may not be ready until 2028.
Earlier, another Rossiya-1 anchor Olga Skabeyeva, as well as Solovyov, had repeated the claim about Johnson’s supposed threat of a nuclear strike on Russia without consulting NATO.
Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, threatened: “Boris, if ‘Sarmat’ is used, none of you will ‘consult with each other’.
“And there will be no one to style your hair, Mr. Prime Minister.”
