City made famous in sitcom Friends is paying people £8,000 to move there – but there's a catch | The Sun

A CITY described as the "Paris of Oklahoma" by Chandler Bing in Friends is offering workers cash to move there.

But while Matthew Perry's character in the hit sitcom was forced to briefly move to Tulsa for his job, you can bag a cool £8,000 if you chose to relocate to the area.

It comes as part of a scheme called Tulsa Remote, encouraging people to pack up and move to Oklahoma's second-largest city.

Successful applicants are offered a $10,000 (£8,100) reward, a space to work at 36 Degrees North plus other perks.

The scheme began in 2018 and so far 2,300 people have made the move.

To be considered for the programme, you must be able to move to Tulsa in the next 12 months and have full-time remote employment or already be self-employed outside of Oklahoma.

You must also be over 18 and eligible to work in the US.

The $10,000 is given as a monthly stipend over a year, although a portion of it is paid at the start to cover relocation fees.

To make you feel welcome, there are also a number of events and meetups arranged for new residents.

Tulsa Remote's website reads: "Tulsa Remote launched in November 2018 in an effort to recruit a diverse group of talented professionals across multiple industries to relocate and be a part of the existing growth happening in Tulsa.

"It is a unique recruitment initiative aimed at attracting talented individuals to Tulsa.

"The program brings remote workers and digital nomads to the community by providing $10,000 grants and numerous community-building opportunities."

Couples are also welcome to apply – but must apply in the same two-week period.

In season nine of Friends, Chandler famously was made to take a role in Tulsa after falling asleep during a meeting at work before accidentally agreeing to run the company's division in the city.

But Tulsa isn't the only place you can be paid to move to.

A beautiful town in Italy is offering anyone who moves there a whopping £25,000.

The town Presicce, in south-east Italy, is offering up the cash for anyone who fancies a spot of sun.

Meanwhile, people were offered £50,000 to move to a quiet island in Scotland.

A scheme launched last year offering to families and young people who are willing to relocate to the Scottish islands cash in a bid to reduce depopulation.

The Scottish government offered up £50,000 bonds to 100 people, costing more than £5million.

Many of the 93 Scottish islands are often voted some of the most beautiful in the world, including Orkney and the Isle of Skye.
