‘Confused’ woman dies during bungee jump after leaping off 160ft bridge forgetting she wasn’t attached to cord

THIS is the shocking moment a woman died while bungee jumping after she followed the wrong signal to jump, even though she wasn't attached to the bungee cord.

The tragic incident took place in the Colombian province of Antioquia where Yecenia Morales Gómez, 25, accidentally leapt 160ft to her death.

Gómez, a lawyer, was preparing to bungee jump for the first time alongside her boyfriend on Sunday.

Shocking footage shows the moment the 25-year-old hears the instructor's signal, which was meant for her boyfriend, thought it was for her and plummeted 160ft, not realising she wasn't attached to a bungee cord.

Local media report that her boyfriend rushed to her side and tried to perform CPR but it was too late.

Firefighters from Amagá who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead.

Gustavo Guzmán,the mayor of the municipality of Fredonia, Antioquia told El Tiempo: ''She got confused. The signal was for the boyfriend to jump because he was already attached to the security equipment.

''They had only put the harness on her so she got confused and rushed.''

According to the medical report, Gomez died from cardiac arrest during her fall, reports the outlet.

Gomez was buried after a ceremony at Simón Bolívar neighbourhood in Medellín, where she lived with her family.

Her grieving brother Andrés Morales described her as a happy woman who loved to read and dance and had an entrepreneurial spirit.

He said: ''My sister is a girl with all the best values, happy, spontaneous, with virtues that made her love her friends, and helped the people in need.''

El Tiempo reports that according to the mayor of Fredonia, there are two companies offering bungee jumping in the area, none of which have permission to do so.

An investigation into the woman's death is underway.
