An investigation is under way after a couple allegedly tried to kidnap a four-year-old girl.
The horrifying incident took place in an alley way just a few yards away from her Northdown Primary School in Cliftonville, Kent.
It happened at 3.30pm on Tuesday (November 16).
Local police are reviewing CCTV, but they have urged anyone who might have information relating to the incident to get in touch.
The attempted abduction was only stopped when a relative of the girl, who had come to collect her, “screamed in horror”, forcing the man and woman to flee.
It is thought that the couple are in their 30s.
A post from the child's mother details the incident, reports Kent Online.
She wrote: “They grabbed my daughter by the wrist while walking through the alley next to Northdown Surgery, Margate, saying, 'You're coming home with me'.
“My niece who was collecting my daughter screamed at them to let her go and this couple ran off."
The school has now issued a message to parents and carers, urging them to be wary or strangers in the area.
Head teacher Matthew Harris said: “The safety and welfare of our children are of paramount importance to us.
“We were very concerned to hear about this incident.
“Due to the ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further but we are cooperative with the police and supporting the family concerned.”
And a police spokesman said: “The incident happened in an alleyway between Northdown Park Road and St Anthony's Way at around 3.30pm that day.
“The man and woman reportedly left the area after being challenged by a relative of the child.
“Officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area and a review of local CCTV.
“No one fitting the description of the man or woman was identified.”
Anyone with any information relating to the the incident should call 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/235697/21.
