University of Colorado Boulder football player La’Vontae Shenault was ticketed for speeding and driving with a revoked license in Boulder County this month, the third traffic case the Buffs’ wide receiver has picked up less than a year.
Shenault, 19, was ticketed for driving 25 to 39 mph over the limit and driving with a restrained license on Feb. 1 by Colorado State Patrol in Boulder County, according to online court records.
Online court records show Shenault was reportedly driving 93 mph in a 65 mph area on U.S. 36 between Boulder and Denver.
Because his license was restrained for an alcohol-related case, Shenault could be facing up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 on the driving with a restrained license charge, a misdemeanor.
The case is set for an advisement hearing on March 4, according to online court records.
Shenault already had a pending careless driving case in Douglas County and a pending DUI case in Larimer County.
He is due in court on March 2 on the Larimer County case and April 9 on the Douglas County case.
CU Boulder released a statement saying Coach Karl Dorrell “is aware of the circumstances” surrounding Shenault’s case.
“We hold all of our student-athletes to high standards of conduct, and the university and athletic department will address follow-up steps related to the matter internally as more details become clear,” the statement read.
This past season Shenault was suspended for a violation of athletic department policy and did not play in the Buffs postseason game at the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29, though officials did not state what the violation was.
As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Shenault played in four games for the Buffs and led the team during the regular season with 17 receptions and was second with 193 receiving yards.
