Dad of nine killed while ‘trying to board amusement ride’ in funfair tragedy

A dad of nine has been killed during an incident at a funfair.

Carl Madgwick was pronounced dead after attempting to board a ride at 2.30pm on Thursday.

Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation after emergency services were called to the fair near Sevenoaks.

It is believed that he was pronounced dead by medics arriving at the fair, which was being held at Brands Hatch racetrack by Shaw's Leisure, KentLive reports.

His family has launched a GoFundMe page following the accident, which describes the impact on friends and family as "a massive shock," and "a very heart-breaking time."

Organised by Damian Mills, it says the victim Carl and his wife Sam "have been together a lifetime, so just helping to take a little strain off the family at this time would mean the world to them.

It reads: "Carl was tragically taken away from his wife and 9 children and a grandchild very unexpectedly on the 1st July.

"This is still a massive shock to the whole family and friends.

"To help elevate the stress on Sam to pay for the funeral I’m setting this page up for anyone who knew Carl to contribute towards costs.

"Any donations received would help massively at this very sad time. Understandingly this is a very heartbreaking time.

"Carl and Sam have been together a lifetime so just helping to take a little strain off the family at this time would mean the world to them. Thank for helping."
