Denver police boost reward to $10,000 for information in double shooting

Denver police have raised the award to $10,000 for information in a shooting outside a strip mall that critically wounded a young girl and injured a man.

The girl, who is 2 or 3 years old, was sitting in a van with her family about 4:30 p.m. at the 2900 block of South Federal Boulevard on Monday when a man opened fire, Denver police said.

Investigators believe the suspect started shooting at a man who was taking a picture of his car, which was parked in a handicapped parking spot. Police believe the suspect walked out of one of the businesses in the strip mall and started firing at the man without warning.

The man taking the photos was treated and released. The girl is still in critical condition in the hospital, police spokesman Kurt Barnes said Saturday

A photo of the suspect shows a male wearing red flannel pajamas, and a black hoodie. The car in the handicapped parking spot is a red Subaru Outback with its rear plate obscured.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Callers can remain anonymous.
