Denver is set for another bone-chilling day of dangerously cold temperatures. Tuesday’s high was a daily record for the coldest maximum temperature on Feb. 22, and Wednesday will near that same record again. Denver could finally warm this weekend after more than 100 hours of below-freezing temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Denver will rise from -6 degrees early Wednesday morning to a high of 13 degrees. About an inch of snow fell downtown overnight, and another half of an inch is possible during the day on Wednesday, mainly falling after 2 p.m. Winds will blow to about 10 mph, bringing wind chill values as low as 15 degrees below zero. The snow could keep falling until about 2 a.m. totaling about 2 inches. The chance of precipitation is 70%, and lows should fall to around 4 degrees. Wednesday’s record lowest high temperature is 10 degrees, set in 1874.
NWS says frostbite can develop in 10 to 30 minutes in the expected conditions on Wednesday. Forecasters advise dressing warmly in several layers of clothing, covering all exposed skin and avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure.
Overnight snow into Friday could total about a half-inch, wrapping up around sunrise. The skies will gradually clear, leading to a high of 22 degrees. Still, wind chill values could be as low as negative nine degrees. Overnight lows will dip to seven degrees.
There’s a 20% chance of snow between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday with a high of 30 degrees and a low of nine.
Saturday should reach the mid-40s, and Sunday could be similar to the temperatures Denver saw last week, warm and in the high 50s.
