A depraved social care worker had a "relationship" with one of the boys in her care at a children's home.

Alysha Friel, appearing at Liverpool Crown Court, pleaded guilty to six counts of being an adult abusing a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with a boy aged 13 and 17.

She pleaded guilty also to four counts of being an adult abusing a position of trust causing or inciting sexual activity with a boy aged between 13 and 17.

Friel, then-23 when she worked at the child care residence and carried out her crimes on a teenager being looked after at the facility, LiverpoolEcho reported.

Callum Ross, prosecuting, said: "The complainant disclosed that in 2020, the complainant and the defendant began flirting with each other.

"They then would go to the cinema and the complainant described how they had kissed on multiple occasions. The complainant disclosed that he believed they were – to use his words – in a relationship."

Friel, now 26 and a mum-of-two, was said to have texted the victim with messages regarding sexual intercourse and claims that she was "wanting" her victim, with said victim adding she was "addicted" to them.

After a week-long holiday together, the victim say they "didn't want to do this anymore" and asked her to quit her job at the children's home, telling a member of staff about their relationship.

In a police interview, Friel admitted to sexual intercourse, while Kenneth Heckle, defending, said the "relationship" was a "perfect storm" of coronavirus and fright.

Judge Robert Trevor-Jones, in sentencing Friel to 20 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months as well as a 35 day rehabilitation order and 100 hours of unpaid work, called the 26-year-old "obsessed".

Judge Trevor-Jones said: "You initiated a wholly inappropriate relationship with him. He had become somewhat infatuated or obsessed with you and believed you were in a relationship, but he then ended it."

Friel will also pay £300 in prosecution costs, the victim surcharge and will be subject to notification order.
