Desperate hunt for girl, 16, swept away after car got stuck in floods

COPS have launched a desperate hunt for a 16-year-old girl after she was swept away in “dangerous” flash floods in Arizona.

Faith Moore has not been seen since Saturday night after local authorities attempted to rescue her from a vehicle stranded in a “low water” crossing in Cottonwood.

It was reported that the teen called authorities for help at around 9pm, but was not recovered from the scene despite claims that a silhouette of a person was visible inside.

It has since sparked a desperate hunt for the young girl who authorities believe must have been swept downstream in floodwaters that quickly grew to more than 8 feet high.

So far hundreds of volunteers and rescue personnel have joined in efforts to scour the nearby areas, but she has not been found.

Verde Valley Fire District Chief Danny Johnson confirmed that at the time of her call to the authorities, the water levels were dangerously high.

He said: "I want to stress again to the public how dangerous these water crossings can be, even when it looks shallow."

"A simple decision to cross the road with running water can quickly turn tragic."

Authorities confirmed that Faith was last seen wearing blue shorts, a light blue shirt and white tennis shoes.

So far, they have only found a cell phone and other personal items believed to have belonged to the teen.

‘NOT GIVING UP’

Authorities added that they believe Moore's car got stuck after heavy debris had accumulated from months of dry weather conditions.

As a result, helicopter and drones and airboats have been deployed to help with search efforts.

The young teen’s identity was only revealed in a press conferenced on Sunday.

It was attended by Moore's grandparents who thanked volunteers for their continued efforts to find the young girl.

"We wanted to reach out and thank the community and all of the first responders and everyone who has worked so hard," said the girl's grandfather. "

“We know Faith is out there and we're not giving up," her grandmother added.

"We want our sweet girl home, we know she's coming home."

The search for Faith is expected to resume on Monday morning.
