Sarah Ferguson says Princess Diana would be overjoyed that her son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are happy together.
In an interview with Italian talk show Porta a Porta on Tuesday 14 December, the Duchess of York discussed her relationship with the affectionately nicknamed "People's Princess".
The Mirror reports that Sarah said she loves seeing Prince Harry happy, and that his mum would feel the same way.
She said: “The most important thing—and I know Diana if she were here, would say that—is they are happy.
“And she makes him happy. And I love to see that little boy that cried at the funeral to have happiness now.”
The ex-wife of Prince Andrew also spoke about the heartbreaking moment Harry sobbed as he followed his mother's coffin during her funeral procession when he was just 12 years old in 1997, the Express reports.
The two duchesses had been close for years and were in fact related as fourth cousins.
The pair did not meet and became close until Diana was 19 and Sarah was 21.
It is believed Diana introduced Sarah to now ex-husband Prince Andrew, Prince Charles' younger brother.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE magazine, Sarah said she became "best friends" with Diana, who she affectionately called "Duch", when they were in their teens.
During the conversation, she also said her childhood friend would be filled with pride at the men her sons have become.
Sarah said she believes Diana would've been pleased with the women they chose to marry.
The Duchess of York told PEOPLE in July: “She would be very proud of her sons and their wives.
“And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that's what she loved.”
The late princess also reportedly "adored" Sarah's daughters, Princesses Eugenie, 31, and Beatrice, 33.
Fergie continued: “This would be her haven. Her heaven.
“If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, 'I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen.'
“Because each has got her own voice.”
During Tuesday's interview, Sarah also discussed how she and the Duke of York continue to "grow together" and that their friendship, love and respect remains despite their marriage breaking down 20 years ago.
It emerged earlier this month that Princess Diana broke royal traditions to ensure her boys could grow up as normal as possible.
And it appears this wish applied to Christmas too, with the late princess eager to make sure her sons were never spoiled.
According to her former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, Christmas gifts would show up at the palace for William and Harry from unknown sources.

But because Diana was so mindful about not showering her children in presents, she would sometimes return gifts that people would send to them or donate them to charity.
Mr Wharfe told OK!: "Diana was very careful to ensure that they weren’t flooded with gifts – gifts did appear from unknown sources, and they were often returned or given to charity because they didn’t need them.
“She was very conscious about= what she bought as she knew the hallway at Sandringham would be full of presents."
According to Mr Wharfe, gifts Diana enjoyed buying for her boys included books, games and videos – but she never sent her staff to buy them.
