Dog owner delighted as missing pooch turns up alive after five years

A woman was left delighted after she was reunited with her beloved pet dog who vanished from her home five years ago.

Kathy Gatling, from Virginia, said she thought it was a scam when she received a phone call from an animal shelter to say they have her missing poodle Snowball.

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter said the 15-year-old pooch was brought into the Florida shelter by an animal control facility who found the furry pooch.

Snowball, who had infections in his eyes and ears, was then scanned for a microchip before being successfully identified.

After receiving the unexpected call, Kathy hopped on a flight to Florida and later had a heart-warming reunion with her pet, reports UPI.

She said her family couldn't believe the news, so once Snowball was treated by veterinarians and cleared for the flight home she took him to see her family.

Kathy, who said she suffered "a lot of sleepless nights" when he went missing, commented on the fortunate news.

"I thought it was a scam, I really did," she said.

"Everybody is coming over to my house and we are going to have a welcome home party for Snowball."

Over in California, a dog who went missing for 12 years defied the odds after she was reunited with her owner after turning up to a farm 60 miles away.

Zoey the pooch had disappeared for so long that her microchip was listed as "deceased" on manufacturer records, the Daily Star previously reported.

Fortunately for Zoey's owner Michelle, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office in California managed to track her down after someone reported that they had found the 13-year-old dog.

Speaking on a video filmed and shared by the police, Michelle said: "Honestly I am still in shock. We got her at the pound when she was six months old with her twin sister.

"They were with us for about six months, and then we went to the store for about 20 minutes and came back, and she was missing.

"I definitely didn’t expect this to ever happen, so I’m really excited."

The pair were later reunited.
