Drug dealer ex-soldier who stole nun’s holy water found selling crack and heroin

An ex-soldier who once savagely robbed an elderly nun as he mowed her down in the street on a moped has now been put behind bars for dealing drugs including heroin and crack cocaine.

Adam Fenton admitted possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply and possessing £1,025 as criminal property.

The 21-year-old, from Hull, had joined the Army at the age of 16 but later left after finding it very lonely when others were going home on leave, MEN media reports.

Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said cops noticed him go into an alleyway with drug users "swarming around" him.

Fenton was found to have 34 wraps of heroin, valued at £340, and 42 wraps of crack cocaine, with a street value of £420, making a total of £760.

He also had £468 cash on him and a further £557 was found at his home, making a total of £1,025.

The youngster had two previous convictions including dangerous driving and stealing an 85-year-old nun’s handbag that contained a bottle of Holy Water as well as keys, a silver medal on a string and addresses written on tags.

The nun got her property back when the bag was found thrown away before he was later identified from CCTV.

Rachel Scott, mitigating, told Hull Crown Court that Fenton had suffered a difficult upbringing and added: "It was the Army that was the problem.

"After he came out of the Army, he was sofa surfing and he ended up in hostels. He was mixing with the wrong crowd."

She claimed her client was "absolutely disgusted with himself" after the robbery involving the nun and started taking drugs after the break-up of a relationship.

Judge Mark Bury told Fenton: "You had quite a significant amount of crack cocaine and heroin on you.

“You have got yourself into debt – and a significant amount of debt – because you are a drug user and you were of the view that you had no alternative but to deal to pay off that debt.

“The reason that you came to that view was because you had been threatened."

Fenton was jailed for four years, including a consecutive 21 months after the two-year suspended sentence for the robbery against the nun was partly activated.

The £1,025 seized will be forfeited and given to the Cherry Tree organisation in Beverley.
