AN engineer trapped under a quad bike in a remote location was rescued after digging a hole — with his pen.
Euan Lindsay, 47, made space around a pocket so he could reach his phone — telling a 999 call handler: “I’ve lost my arm” before blacking out.
He was trapped under the 650kg quad bike for more than three hours after it flipped when riding on the Isle of Skye.
Euan was 100 miles from the nearest hospital, in an area inaccessible by road.
But rescuers found him and saved his arm.
He said: “When I was up there by myself, I thought I was a goner. But I’m still alive.

“Ended up all the nerve endings (in my arm) have stopped working so it’s going to be a long term rehabilitation.
“But I’d like to thank the emergency services once I’m fit and healthy again.”

Euan’s rescue was possible thanks to the Scottish Trauma Network – launched in 2017 to make emergency services available to those living in the country’s most remote areas.
They respond to around 5,000 calls daily – with many calls coming from patients who have suffered trauma in the most challenging of landscapes.
His tale was captured for Channel 4 documentary Rescue: Extreme Medics, which begins tonight at 9pm.
