A RAPIST who "branded" his victim by carving his initials into her back has been jailed.
Former soldier Daniel Dickson, 31, repeatedly raped the woman in the attack before producing the knife which he used to carve her back with.
The Afghanistan veteran claimed he used the blade as "experimentation" and the woman had consented.
But prosecutor Paul Newcombe said when he produced the knife he told her he was going to "brand" her and the degradation was an aggravating feature of the case.
A jury at Teesside crown court found him guilty of rape and unlawful wounding.
Andrew Stranex, mitigating, said Dickson had a successful six-year career in the Army serving in Bosnia, Afghanistan and other conflict zones before leaving to work as an electrician.
He added that the knife had been used in “experimentation”.

Judge Tony Briggs said: "You pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding on the basis that it was at her request that you carve her initials on her back.
“It’s perfectly plain that the jury did not accept this particular account, and neither do I.”
Dickson, of Redcar, North Yorkshire, was jailed for seven years for rape and 12 months concurrently for the unlawful wounding.
He was given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order banning him from contacting or attempting to contact the woman.
