Heartstopping moment baby in a pram rolls onto the tracks at a train station after mum and dad look away for a matter of seconds

THIS is the chilling moment a baby in a pram rolls onto the train tracks at a mainline station – as her parents look away for a second.

The shocking footage starts with the mother and father pushing the pram onto a platform before she adjusts her clothes while her partner checks the timetable.

Then the pram starts rolling towards the edge of the platform dropping to the tracks in Melbourne, Australia.

The tot can be seen slipping out of the pram and falling onto the rock-hard rails.

Immediately, her terrified parents start scrambling to get their child back to safety.

The father jumps down, while the mother waits on the edge of the platform clearly in shock.

The child is later seen being cradled by the father while the mother waits with her arms wide open to console her baby.

It is unclear if the child had suffered any injuries during the horror fall.

The CCTV footage was among many incidents that Metro Train Melbourne recorded in the space of nine months involving infants.

Another incident recorded at the Upper Ferntree Gully, a suburb of Melbourne, shows how a lady struggles to lift a pram to safety by herself.

Fortunately, the child is later seen unharmed after the ordeal.

The shocking events were enough to convince the team to launch a new pram safety campaign to help parents and other individuals who face situations like these in the future.

Metro Train Melbourne's Director of Customer Experience Rob Guest said a new emergency button would be placed in all of its stations to provide real-time assistance to anyone facing such horror in the future.
