The Sydney Morning Herald’s groundbreaking investigative podcast Liar, Liar: Melissa Caddick and the Missing Millions has passed 1 million downloads less than a month after its launch.
The series, hosted by the Herald’s award-winning chief investigative reporter Kate McClymont and 60 Minutes reporter Tom Steinfort, dives into the stunning fraud committed by the seemingly successful Sydney businesswoman.
“The Caddick investigation has fascinated different people for different reasons – fraud, deception, and jaw-dropping chutzpah. We’re delighted with the audience response to Liar, Liar and the feedback we are receiving every week tells us just how engaged and interested listeners are,” Herald investigations editor Michael Evans said.
“We are at the halfway mark of the series and Kate and Tom have plenty of revelations still to come about how Caddick deceived those closest to her.”
The series has so far unveiled Caddick’s early fraud, including forged cheques and fake degrees, the lies she told about her first marriage to lawyer Tony Caddick and how she at one point stole $46,000 a day from her clients – most of whom were family and close friends.
In episode five, released on Monday, McClymont and Steinfort reveal how Caddick used money stolen from her parents to pay $590,000 for a single-stone diamond ring.

Herald editor Bevan Shields said the podcast shows the extraordinary reach the Herald’s quality, innovative journalism can achieve.
“I’m so proud of Kate, Tom and the team,” Shields said. “This really is storytelling at its best.”
Liar, Liar is the first audio co-production between The Sydney Morning Herald and 60 Minutes.
“This partnership has brought to life the incredible stranger-than-fiction story of con-artist Melissa Caddick,” Nine’s director of news and current affairs, Darren Wick said.
“Across Nine, we have told this story on 60 Minutes, in our papers and with our drama Vanishing Act and each has attracted big audiences as people are fascinated by the story.”
New episodes of Liar, Liar are released every Monday on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
