The ex-husband of a sick teacher jailed for having sex with her 15-year-old pupil has revealed the reason he finally upped and left after defending her for years.
Daniel Barber vigorously defended his wife, Kandice, during the troubling court case, and was even heard shouting “it’s a joke” when in January 2021 his wife was found guilty of having sex with a child.
Kandice, a former teacher at a Buckinghamshire school, was found to have added herself to the teen’s Snapchat account, and was caught sending sexual messages despite knowing he was underaged.

She sent him a topless picture and a video of a sexual act before, in October 2018, going to a field with him to have sex.
Daniel said that he even stayed with her as she was behind bars for a whole year, but eventually left her for another woman.
The 40-year-oldtold the Sunthat after they got together in 2015, they stayed together through thick and thin until 2021 when he decided to break up with her for his new missus, Charlotte Smith.
He claims that he stayed with her for her first year in prison to make sure that her three boys were looked after.

“I stood by her because she had kids, and I didn’t want the kids to be taken into care.”
He said that he really did believe that she was innocent throughout her trial, despite his outburst in court.
“I was always brought up until you’ve proven guilty, or not guilty, why should I not stand by someone?

“So I stood by someone in the belief they were innocent and that everything’s going to be fine.”
Daniel said that he ended up splitting up with Kandice after he suffered a string of family losses and realised he had no one to turn to.
“In that whole first year I lost my stepdad and then my sister died.

“The one person that should have been there for me wasn’t.
“When you’re married to someone and someone dies in your family, the one person you want is the person you’re married to or you’re with to support you, and I didn’t have that.”
He added that despite the heartbreak he’s had to deal with over the years, he’s now happily shacked up with his new girlfriend, and says he doesn’t regret supporting his ex-wife throughout her trial.

“I’ve moved on, I’m happy, nothing will bring me down.
“It’s taken me a long way to get where I am, but I wouldn’t turn back the clocks and change anything because going through this stuff has made me who I am today.”
