James Cracknell's ex-wife congratulates him posing with boyfriend

James Cracknell, 49, marries 36-year-old financier Jordan Connell – and his ex-wife who nursed him back to health after bike crash wishes them a ‘huge congratulations’ while posing with her topless boyfriend

  • Beverley Turner, 47, was among first to congratulate her ex-husband James Cracknell on his wedding day
  • She posted a picture with her own younger lover James Pritchett, 32, via Twitter from a beach in Cornwall
  • The mother of his three children sent her good wishes as wed Jordan Connell, who is 13 years his junior

James Cracknell married for the second time yesterday, to an American financier 13 years his junior.

The double Olympic gold medal rower, 49, kissed Jordan Connell outside a Chelsea church after the ceremony.

And among the first to congratulate them was his ex-wife, television presenter Beverley Turner, 47 – who sent her good wishes on Twitter alongside a picture of her with her own younger lover.

Miss Turner, the mother of his three children, posted a picture with James Pritchett, 32, and wrote: ‘Huge congratulations from us both to James Cracknell who gets married today to a wonderful woman who makes him happy.’

In a video from Cornwall, where she is on holiday, Miss Turner admitted that declaring ‘my ex-husband got married today’ is ‘quite a strange thing to say’.

But she said she was ‘totally OK with it’, adding: ‘I’m happier now than I have been for many years and I know James is happier now than he has been for many years – and a big part of that is Jordan, his wife.’

Cracknell and his new wife, who wore a floor-length white dress with lace, were married at St Luke’s parish church in West London, emerging to applause from around 50 friends and family.

They then boarded two double decker buses to the reception at the Royal Automobile Club.

The past decade or so has often been turbulent for Cracknell. In 2010 he nearly died when he was hit by a truck as he cycled across America. He suffered a severe brain injury which dramatically changed his personality, leaving him with epilepsy, a short temper and a lack of empathy.

Miss Turner helped nurse him back to health but said: ‘A formerly quiet man, he couldn’t stop talking but certainly stopped listening. I had my silent screams in the shower so the children wouldn’t hear.’

They divorced after 17 years in 2019 – the same year that Cracknell met his new wife while he was reading for a master’s in human evolution at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, and she was studying at the university’s Judge Business School.

Cracknell, the oldest rower to compete in and win the Boat Race, also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing that year.
