Kabul Airport rocked by explosion and ‘gunfire’ after terror attack warning

Kabul Airport has been rocked by an explosion and gunfire after the Government warned of an imminent terror attack.

John Kirby, spokesman for the US Department of Defense, confirmed a blast had taken place this afternoon, August 26.

The number of casualties is not yet clear.

However, one US official told CNN that Afghans had been injured in the explosion.

Another eyewitness told journalist Bilal Sarwary that a “large suicide attack” had been launched, with gunfire exchanged.

Conservative MP Nus Ghani tweeted: “Explosion at Kabul airport.

“I was on the phone to an Afghan outside the airport when he heard the explosion.

“Praying that he gets away safely and we get his family safe passage out of this nightmare.”
