Prince Philip, 99, has been taken to hospital at the advice of his doctor, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
The Queen’s husband was taken to a private hospital in London on Tuesday, February 16 as a “precautionary measure”.
Last month it was announced that both Her Majesty and her consort had received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
But Philip has had a number of health problems over the years. Here we take a closer look at why the Duke of Edinburgh is in hospital.
Why is Prince Philip in hospital?
The Duke of Edinburgh was taken to hospital at the advice of his doctor, “after feeling unwell”.
The Buckingham Palace statement continued: “The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
A Royal source has said that the Duke of Edinburgh was taken to hospital by car, and walked into the medical facility unaided.
According to the Telegraph, his admission was not an emergency, a palace source told the publication his condition was not Covid-related.
On Tuesday night Philip was reportedly in ”good spirits”, despite feeling "unwell for a short period of time".

Prince Philip has suffered a number of health issues over the years, including being treated for a blocked coronary artery in 2011, and a bladder infection in June 2012.
In June 2013 he underwent exploratory surgery on his abdomen, and began using hearing aids by the following year.
In June 2016 Prince Philip pulled out of a Battle of Jutland anniversary event because of a minor ailment.
More recently, he spent four nights at King Edward Hospital in December 2019 where he was treated for a “pre-existing condition”. He was later discharged on Christmas Eve.
The Duke was then driven to Sandringham and spent Christmas with the Queen.
