In an unthinkable move, fast-food giant McDonald's has announced its UK burger joints have run out of supplies of the iconic milkshake – and fans are 'devastated'.
The restaurant juggernaut, which first arrived in the country in 1974, has become the latest victim to reveal difficulties in the supply chain.
As well as milkshakes McDonald's also confirmed that each store has also run out of bottles of fizzy drink, according to The Independent.
The burger chain has around 1,250 restaurants across England, Scotland, and Wales with a spokesperson confirming it was “working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible”.
It is thought the problems have arisen due to a driver shortage created by the Covid pandemic and problems recruiting/training drivers after the UK left European Union.
A spokesperson said: "Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues, impacting the availability of a small number of products.
"Bottled drinks and milkshakes are temporarily unavailable in restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank our customers for their continued patience. We are working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible.”
Disappointed customers turned to Twitter to vent their frustrations, one person wrote: "@McDonalds you don’t do bagels anymore or breakfast wraps you now have no milkshakes, Tropicana or bottled water….what’s going on????"
Another added that this was not the first UK restaurant with supply issues, Tweeting: "First supermarket shelves became bare, then Nando’s had no chicken now…McDonald’s runs out of milkshakes in all UK restaurants".

One described the news as “devastating” but others joked how it's as business as usual since the machines are often out of order.
“Normal service then…” they wrote.
Earlier in August, Nando's was forced to close several of its restaurants after running out of food blaming shortages of its supplier staff.
A Nando's spokesperson said: "The UK food industry has been experiencing disruption across its supply chain in recent weeks due to staff shortages, and a number of our restaurants have been impacted.
"However, we can confirm that from today Nando’s will be lending seventy of our brilliant team members to support our key suppliers – working in partnership to help get things moving again."
KFC also warned customers that there may be food shortages in some of its restaurants following weeks of "disruption".
