An ex-aide of Melania Trump claims she has "more tapes" to back up the unflattering claims she made about the former First Lady in her memoir.
In her book, Melania and Me, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff made multiple disparaging claims about Mrs Trump.
She also claimed that funds for ex-President Donald Trump's inauguration in 2017 had been misused by the family.
Now the U.S Department of Justice has dropped its cases against her book, which sought to confiscate the proceeds.
The book recalled disagreements that Ms Trump had with her husband Donald as well as an apparently tense rivalry with daughter Ivanka.
After the book was released, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for Mrs Trump, said the memoir is "not only wildly self-aggrandising, it's just not truthful".
Ms Wolkoff, 50, worked as an unpaid adviser to Ms Trump from January 2017 to February 2018.
She says the anecdotes are based on covert recordings she made of Mrs Trump during her time working for her.
Wolkoff released several of the tapes while promoting the book, which was released in September 2020 prior to the US election, but claims to have many more clips.
Melania Trump 'loves' that Donald is off Twitter and says he's 'much happier' now
Lawyers for the government filed the notice to end the legal case with a judge on Monday, saying it "voluntarily dismisses this action".
No further detail was given as to why it had been abandoned.
Ms Wolkoff had been accused of breaching a non-disclosure agreement to write the tell-all tale.
The former aide hit the headlines when she released some recordings of Mrs Trump last year, with the former First Lady heard calling Stormy Daniels, who was linked to Mr Trump, a "porn hooker" in one of the clips.
Melania Trump doesn't attend Donald's Super Bowl party sparking 'discontentment' rumours
Ms Daniels responded to the recording on Twitter: "Hahaha! Although I wasn't paid for sex and therefore technically not a "hooker" I'll take being that over what you are any day.
"You sold your p**** AND your soul. Keep talking about me."
Adult star Ms Daniels did not sleep with Mr Trump as a prostitute but the former president did arrange a payment of $130,000 (£94,000) to stop her discussing an affair the pair had.
After the US government dropped the legal case, Ms Wolkoff posted a series of triumphant messages on Twitter as she went on to claim she has even more material about her former boss.
She wrote: "Melania opened Pandora's box involving the DOJ.
"The enormous trove of communications & documentation I possess and shared tell the truth about 'why' and 'how' the contracts were 'created' and 'terminated' and who was involved. TRUTH PREVAILS."
She went on: "The Trumps gagged me and tried to silence me and the truth. Justice prevailed!"
