Mum's horror as newborn baby is 'stolen and thrown to her death in moat by pack of wild monkeys'

A MUM was left horrified after her newborn baby was stolen and thrown to her death in a moat by a pack of wild monkeys, according to reports.

The eight-day-old twin girls were both snatched by the monkeys as they slept at their home near Thanjavur Palace in India on Saturday.

Locals spotted the primates carrying the babies across rooftops – and managed to rescue one of the baby girls after she was left on a roof.

But tragically, the other baby girl was later recovered from a nearby moat and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to India Today, the twin girls were snatched by the primates while they were sleeping in bed at their home.

The local news reported: “Buvaneswari, the mother of newborn twin girls, alleged that monkeys entered her home and picked up the sleeping babies on Saturday.

“Buvaneswari further said she was shocked to see the monkeys on the roof and began yelling. It was only later that she realised that her children were missing.

“As she began to cry, neighbours came to help and reportedly retrieved one baby from the roof but couldn't find the other one.

"Moments later, the other baby was found in a nearby water body. Medical team which reached the spot pronounced the child dead."

Inspector S Chandramohan of Thanjavur West police told the Times of India: “Once we got the information about the incident, we rushed to the spot and searched for the second baby.

"We finally located the infant on the moat. We have sent the body to the Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem."

Times Now News said that the monkeys fore slates off the roof of the home in order to kidnap the sleeping babies.

CHILD SNATCHERS

A Thanjavur forest ranger named G Jothikumar declared the kidanppings by the monkeys as the “rarest of rare”.

This is not the first time that reports of monkeys savaging babies in India have circulated.

Two years ago, a newborn baby snatched by a monkey was found dead at the bottom of a well covered in scratches.

The 16-day-old infant was grabbed from his mother's side in the village of Talabasta in eastern India, sparking a frantic search by police and 2,000 locals.

A simian monkey took the sleeping infant while the mother was doing chores outside.

Family members then found the tragic infant at the bottom of a well.

PC Pradhan said: "The baby was sleeping next to its mother when the monkey allegedly carried him away.

"He mother immediately raised cries for help but the creature fled with the baby and disappeared from her view."

And last year, a bizarre clip surfaced showing the moment a monkey on a tiny bike snatched a toddler and dragged the child down the street.

In the clip, a little monkey can be seen speeding down an alley before approaching a group sat on a bench with a toddler.

The monkey then abandons the bike and clings onto the youngster's clothing, dragging the child for several feet.

The pair scramble before somebody dashes in to rescue the child, forcing the monkey to scamper away.
