A naked man burst through a terrified family's door ‘like Jack Nicholson in The Shining’.

After waking up to noise of the break-in, a mum headed downstairs and found 25-year-old Ashley Ford standing there stark naked on March 9.

With her two children still asleep in the dead of night, the mother screamed in shock which alerted her adult son who recognised Ford and managed to push him into their pantry.

According to StokeOnTrentLive, Ford smashed his way through the door which a police officer arriving at the home in Silverdale, Staffordshire, described as "something out of a horror film".

Speaking at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Prosecutor Timothy Ashmole said: “There was a scuffle between them, with the victim suffering injuries. They managed to lock the defendant in the pantry area.”

But Ford – high on monkey dust – smashed the glass and climbed through the window to get out. As he reached the corridor, there was another struggle.

The family shut a second internal door to get away from him.

Judge Paul Glenn, describing the incident at Ford’s sentencing hearing, said: “You pushed through the door. You tried to knock it down.

“By then, the police had been called and were approaching the scene.

“An officer described what she saw as ‘like something out of a horror film’. Having seen the footage, it was just that.

“It was like Jack Nicholson in The Shining, who came through a door in a similar way to you.”

The court was told the house was left ‘trashed’ by the defendant, who could remember little of what happened as he was on drugs at the time.

The male who he attacked suffered two deep cuts to his fingers and needed stitches. He also required time off work to recover.

Now Ford, of Ilkley Place, Silverdale, has been jailed for 21 months after pleading guilty to unlawful wounding, affray and two charges of criminal damage.

The incident in the family’s home was the second episode of strange behaviour in the early hours of March 9.

He had initially been spotted jumping on the roof of a Nissan Qashqai while completely naked.

The car’s owner shouted out and confronted him. Luckily, the two dents he left in the roof could be pushed out, so only minor damage was caused.

But after Ford fled that scene, he managed to get inside the property in High Street at around 3am.

The defendant, who committed the offences while on bail for another matter, has 21 previous convictions. The court heard he has also used several aliases.

Stuart Muldoon, mitigating, said: “He does have some mental health issues.”

Ford lost a relative in 2019, which had a ‘profound impact’ on him. He began suffering from anxiety and depression.

Mr Muldoon added: “He started taking drugs. Spice was his drug of choice and he then started on monkey dust.”

Judge Glenn told the defendant he'd ‘plainly had issues with drugs for a long time’.

He said: “It must have been a shocking experience for the three people in the home.

“The home was trashed. You used serious and sustained violence. You were totally out of control as a result of drugs.”
