THE Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Florida is on lockdown as police hunt for a suspect who crashed his vehicle nearby and jumped the fence onto the base.
Officials said the unidentified man crashed his vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard and Collins Road near the NAS base on Wednesday morning.
The Naval Air Station's security department released a statement asking residents living at the station to remain in their homes as they work with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to search for the suspect.
"All personnel living aboard the station are asked to remain in their homes and stay clear of Perimeter Road to Swan Road due to police activity," the NAS said.
According to First Coast News, the fence the suspect jumped is a wooded storage area near the base's housing away from the runway.
It's unclear what caused the crash or whether the suspect was running from police.
