New York state has topped 1 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, as the Empire State has been slammed for a slow rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The latest results bring the state’s tally of those testing positive to 1,005,785, with 15,074 new positive results announced Saturday, according to stats released by Gov. Cuomo.

The governor did not acknowledge the grim milestone in announcing the latest numbers. Instead, he insisted the state was rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine swiftly despite critics saying otherwise.

In New York City, just 100,878 people have been vaccinated as of Friday, with only 124 getting the jab on New Year’s Day, according to the city Health Department.

“The state is working around the clock with the medical community to not only ensure vaccines are distributed as quickly and efficiently as possible, but to also continue growing bed capacity so hospitals do not become overwhelmed,” Cuomo said.

The total cases in New York are likely much higher than what has been reported, since testing was limited after the outbreak began last winter.

New York’s positivity rate Friday was 7.45 percent and there were 7,814 people hospitalized with the deadly bug, Cuomo said.

The positivity rate in New York City Friday, on seven-day average, was 6.17 percent, up slightly from 5.85 percent a day earlier.

There were 128 deaths statewide bringing the total to 30,337.

There were 32 COVID-19 deaths in New York City Friday, officials said.

And there were 140 new COVID-19 cases among city students and Department of Education employees as of Dec. 31, according to DOE data.
