A man has been charged with the murders of the three people killed in the recent attacks in Nottingham.

Valdo Calocane, 31, has been charged with murder as well as attempted murder after three people were injured in the city centre following the deaths of three people.

Students Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, as well as caretaker Ian Coates, 65, were stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Calocane, of no fixed address, was confirmed to have been charged with the three murders as well as attempted murder by a police representative.

A statement from Chief Constable Kate Meynell read: "These charges are a significant development and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city.

"Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those affected by these attacks, and we will continue to provide support and reassurance."

Valdo Amissão Mendes Calocane was arrested on Tuesday (June 13) after the series of deadly attacks.

Detectives questioned the 31-year-old over a 36 hour period, with police confirming Calocane had previously attended the same university as two of his three victims.

Nottinghamshire Police arrived on Ilkeston Road just after 4am to reports of "blood-curdling screams", with Barnaby and Grace found unresponsive in the street.

Tributes were paid to Barnaby and Grace as a vigil was held in memory of the two students sadly killed in the attack, which left caretaker Ian Coates dead and three more injured.

Barnaby's father, David, said: "I've lost my baby boy, and I can't even comprehend how I'm going to deal with it… myself and Emma and Charlie and his family and friends."

Grace's father, Sanjoy, also paid tribute at the vigil held in memory of the two students, speaking of his daughter's "love" for Nottingham.
