The hordes of celebs swarming Martha’s Vineyard for President Obama’s “scaled-down” birthday bash are getting quite the pandemic party favor: masks.
After a massive backlash, the Obamas claimed they cut down the tremendous guest list for the former president’s outdoor celebration at their nearly $12 million estate, citing the pandemic.
But the festivities so far have seen plenty of crowded conditions, with Barack Obama making his way through a crammed balcony full of maskless partiers after things kicked off Friday evening.
A source close to the Obama camp insisted the 60th birthday celebration would be a super non-spreader: all guests had to submit a negative PCR test beforehand, there’s a medical professional acting as “COVID coordinator,” and masks will be handed out during the Saturday evening festivities, the source said. .
Obama and his guests allegedly kept their faces covered as they kicked things off at a pre-party shindig Friday night at the Winnitu Ocean Resort, where many of those invited to Saturday’s bash are staying.
But guests whipped off their facial protection once they packed on the balcony overlooking the beach.
Among the bold-faced names in attendance: Tom Hanks, sporting glasses and gray hair, “charmed the crowd,” said one source.
President Obama, in a dark shirt, also appeared to move around the room with his wife Michelle, chatting up many of the guests.
Obama’s birthday party is being held outside in a big tent on the former first family’s sprawling 29-acre property. Aerial photos showed a massive tent flanked by smaller staging tents, outdoor furniture, a dance floor and a large raised stage with speakers and technical equipment.
Guests are not required to be masked up while outside at the party, per CDC and state regulations.
