A decorated war veteran has admitted to staging his own death to skip charges of child abuse.
Purple heart medal recipient Jacob Blair Scott, 45, pretended he had died in Alabama, USA, to avoid the charges against him in Mississippi.
Law & Crimereports he left a weapon and suicide note on a boat he then abandoned off the coast of Alabama on July 30, 2018.
The boat was then found by Orange Beach Police after they received the distress call.
He was charged on three separate counts. including communicating a false distress message to the US coastguard, transporting a firearm across state lines while under indictment for a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, and for transmitting false information about the transport of that firearm.
The plea agreement says: “There were no occupants on the boat.
“A semi-automatic pistol was tied to the boat where a suicide note was found.”
However, a number of clues helped make it clear that the suicide wasn’t real, including a variety of different suicide notes.
The plea agreement noted that he had withdrawn $45,000 before he died and added: “One of the notes told family members not to change their phone numbers for a year”.
He had been facing charges of sexual battery, touching of a child for lustful purposes, and exploitation of a child.
According toWLOX, he fled shortly before he was due to attend a contempt of court hearing.

He was finally caught in January 2020 in Antlers, Oklahoma.
In June he was convicted by a jury for assaulting a 14-year-old girl repeatedly between March 2016 and February 2017.
