‘Paedo’ PE teacher arrested for sex with teen after journal confessions exposed

A PE teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with a teenage student after the child's mother found her journal.

Arin Hankerd, 42, was arrested during a search of his home on Sunday (February 12) following a tip-off.

The journal contained details about the girl's alleged inappropriate relationship with the teacher at Atlantic High School in Port Orange, Florida. She also reportedly wrote in it that they "loved" each other.

"[The mother] advised [she] had multiple conversations with her about Arin Hankerd prior to finding her journal, and became suspicious as to why she talked to him so much," the police report stated, according to the Daily Mail.

Hankerd had been teaching the student since August 2022.

According to ClickOrlando, the police report states they had been having conversations almost daily in December, when he started buying her lunch sometimes.

The mother allegedly found inappropriate Instagram messages indicating that the relationship had turned sexual in January.

Other students had reportedly joked that the pair were dating as they appeared close. She had even been questioned by school officials but denied the rumours.

The arrest affidavit revealed Hankerd told her that he transferred to different schools due to allegations he was dating other students.

Since his arrest, people claiming to be students at his current or former schools, as well as people claiming to be their parents, have said rumours of his alleged misconduct with pupils are not new.

One person wrote on Facebook: "We complained about him repeatedly to the school (Atlantic High) along with so many other parents.

"They launched an investigation and sent someone down from Tallahassee to ask my daughter questions, she expressed how uncomfortable he made her feel and how he made advances towards her and they did NOTHING!"

Another wrote: "I told the school when he was being inappropriate with me and they did NOTHING, until he got mad and decided to tell them I had a gun in my car (WHICH WASNT TRUE) and they finally moved me from his class.

"No punishments for him for being inappropriate though because who believes kids right. Glad it finally caught up to him!"

Hankerd is being held on $115,000 (£94,500) bond. He has already resigned his teaching position.
