The parent of a Parkland school shooting victim made an impassioned call for their son's killer to be murdered in jail during his sentencing earlier this week.
Michael Schulman's son was a teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and one of the victims of a 2018 massacre at the hands of Nikolas Cruz, who on Wednesday (Nov 2) was handed a life sentence after the jury decided against the death penalty.
During a victim impact statement the day before, Schulman said he had just one wish for his upcoming birthday – that Cruz would meet a "heinous" end in prison, the New York Post reported.

Pointing his finger at Cruz, he said: "My hope, my prayer, is that for my birthday present I get word you are dead.
"That the prisoners and the inmates you associate with execute the judgment that this court can’t.
"I hope that it’s the most painful judgment ever."
Schulman's son, Scott Beigel, 35, was a geography teacher at the school and was one of 17 people to lose their lives when Cruz opened fire.
He was hit by Cruz’s bullets after he opened up his classroom door to provide shelter for students running from the violence.

"I hope that when your final death comes, you will have the same fear, the same agony as the 16 people you killed and my son. Hope that your death is slow and agonizing," Schulman added.
The bereaved dad has made no secret of his disdain for his son's killer in the past, calling Cruz a "piece of s***" in the past and warning him that a death at the hands of his fellow inmates would be much more unpleasant than a state-issued execution.
"Prison justice is a b****," he said during his statement.
"When your fellow inmates execute the death penalty that you deserve, they will do so in such a cold, calculating, heinous manner that you’ll be wishing the state of Florida had executed you in the compassionate way they must execute by law."
Schulman wasn't the only one calling for Cruz's death in prison – victims' families were shocked when a jury opted to forgo the death penalty, with Judge Elizabeth Scherer forced to uphold their decision and sentence him to life behind bars.

Manuel Oliver, whose son Joaquin was also killed in the slaughtering, said he would "celebrate" if Cruz was murdered in prison.
“I think that one of the reasons you did this was to be famous,” said Oliver.
“I think that someone will steal that fame. Whoever takes care of you will own that fame. Someone will. You’re going to die before me. And I will celebrate when you die.”
