The buzzing insect flies around Mr Ford's mouth and disappears when he keeps his mouth open.

The politician takes a quick step back from the podium and chokes on his cough.

"Holy Christ! I just swallowed a bee!" he told the reporters and grabbed a bottle of water to soothe the discomfort.

"I'm good, he's down here buzzing around right now."

He even made jokes on the blunder and pointed at his stomach, saying: "He has a lot of real estate!"

"Man, he went right down the hatch," he giggled. "This is going to be played over and over again.

"And that just made Colin D'Mello's day. He's going to be laughing all the way to the city. This is a good one, I'm going to be howling tonight watching this tape."

Some concerned audience members asked Mr Ford if he was feeling fine after swallowing the bee, he said he was fine.

Mr Ford is not the latest politician that created a buzz and made international headlines, Finland's Prime Minister was thrown into the spotlight when aleaked video showed her partying with celebrities.

Sanna Marin, the world's youngest PM, was filmed dancing wildly and singing with media personalities at a private party.

She was accused of taking drugs at the social event by political opponents, who said "it's not fitting to be a PM".

But the 36-year-old denied and said she could take drug tests if needed.
