Prince Harry, William, Meghan and Kate to battle for headlines, expert warns

Tensions between Prince William and Harry are set to reach an all-time high at the end of the year with the brothers geared for a battle for the spotlight, a royal expert has warned.

Until now the rift between the future king and his estranged younger brother has been bubbling – however, the two princes have in the last 36 hours announced different projects launching at the same time, both in the US, meaning their rivalry may come to a head as they battle for publicity.

Royal critic Daniela Elser, writing for news.com.au, said: "Eat your heart out, William Shakespeare. Yes, he knew a thing or two about rivalries gone bad, feuding families and the corrosive consequences of human hurts left to fester.

"But could even he have come up with a tale as outrageous as the one the world is going to watch play out in the closing weeks of this year and starring none other than William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex?"

After much anticipation, it seems Harry and Meghan's reality-style TV show, produced by Netflix, might finally be released this year.

The intimate at-home series is expected to land on the streaming platform after the release of The Crown's fifth season, which is due to drop in November – meaning fans of the Sussexes can hopefully expect the show to land before the end of 2022.

A source told the publication that Netflix 'wants to make sure they get in there and don’t get scooped' by Harry's long-awaited memoir, also expected to hit shelves at the tail end of 2022.

Meanwhile William and Kate have news of their own – the second Earthshot Prize, an award founded by the Prince which makes $87million (£73m) available for climate change solutions, is set to be held in Boston this December.

Elser warned that with the two couples in the USA at the same time, launching very different projects, their conflict could take a turn for the worse – and that this fight will be televised.

"In the past 36 hours, two lots of royal news have broken, thus setting the stage for a scenario that could well end up being as climactic as anything ol’ Will and his trusty quill ever came up with," the royal expert continued.

"The scene is set for an epic clash of brands, brothers, and approaches to public service, all of which is going to play out on every smartphone and TV screen in the world.

"Talk about bingeable content."
