The troops of of Russian President Vladimir Putin are embarking on a “deliberate campaign” of rape, murder, terror and torture in Bucha, Ukraine, a senior US official has said.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken was speaking after video and photo evidence of horrendous acts committed by Russian troops in the area, near the Ukraine's capital of Kyiv, emerged, The Mirror reports.
Russia has denied committing any acts of violence in the area, and called the photos and videos fakes.
However, Secretary Blinken said: “He (Putin) is a war criminal.
“But we have to gather the information.
“We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to continue to fight and we have to get all the detail.
“This guy is brutal and what's happening in Bucha is outrageous and everyone's seen it.”
The barbaric troops of the 64th Motorised Rifle Brigade of the 35th All-Russian Army withdrew from the city of Bucha last week, where they filled several graves with tortured civilian corpses.
They left a trail of destruction and suffering in neighbourhoods around Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities say.
The claims about Russian actions in Bucha come just 24 hours after Russian troops were spotted using a horrifying mobile crematorium in Ukraine in a bid to hide the bodies of its own dead.
It is also believed that Putin's army has used the massive machine to remove all traces of anyone it kills, too.
The truck containing the device was spotted in war-torn Mariupol, and in the now-destroyed Bucha, near Kyiv.
Details on exactly how the device is being used are sketchy, but local reports quote eyewitnesses as saying that there are “special Russian brigades” collecting bodies of “Mariupol residents murdered and killed as a result of the Russian invasion”.
