Ukrainian soldiers have mocked the protective equipment supplied to Russians in a video released online in which they laughed at how “transparent” their bulletproof vest is before bending it in half with their hands. As Russian soldiers continue to struggle with a shortage of equipment in the face of a well-supported Ukrainian Army, the footage showed the defending forces in fits of laughter as they joked about how “confident” the Russians must be that they don’t need proper protection. It comes as British military intelligence said on Monday Russia was facing more acute logistical problems in southern Ukraine after a blast on October 8 caused damage to a road-and-rail bridge linking mainland Russia to Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014.
As the Ukrainian soldier held a piece of thin red metal in front of the camera, he said: “[This is] trophy armoured tape from a Russian bulletproof vest. They seem to be so confident in themselves that they don’t need armour.”
Another soldier said: “The camera cannot focus on this, it is so transparent.”
The soldier with the camera added: “And we complained that we had something wrong with our equipment.”
As the soldiers laughed at the flimsy piece of protective wear, a third member of the group grabbed the piece of metal and bent it around his knee.
He then placed the remnants of the bulletproof vest on the floor and folded it in half. The cameraman added: “You ruined the orcs’ plywood.”
The clip sparked ridicule on Twitter, with users mocking the unpreparedness of the Russian Army.

“The Frontiviki gets a €2 piece of metal, but the procurement budget for the Rus MoD was 100 x times that unit price.”

Ukraine have continued to push into recently-annexed territory in the southern and eastern regions as Russia resort to further bombing to discourage more counter offensives.
Fighting was particularly intense over the weekend in Donetsk and Luhansk, which make up the industrial Donbas, and the Kherson province in the south.
Russia’s defence ministry said on Sunday its forces had repelled efforts by Ukrainian troops to advance in the Donetsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. Russia also said it was continuing air strikes on military and energy targets in Ukraine.
The Ukrainians, who have taken to calling Russian soldiers “orcs” in reference to the enemy forces in Lord of the Rings, are taking full advantage of Russia’s struggles to re-equip their troops.
Ukraine also claimed it had destroyed 37 Russian drones since Sunday evening, around 85-86 percent of the number involved in attacks, Ukraine’s air force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said on Monday.

“That’s quite a good result for the work of our air defences and that number will rise in the future,” he told a news briefing, adding that all the drones had flown into Ukraine from the south.
But some of the “suicide drones”, which fly to their target and detonate, were not shot down and caused devastation in Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine.
Russia attacked the centre of the capital during morning rush hour on Monday and shelled other cities around the country, the second time in a week it has unleashed strikes across Ukraine while its forces face setbacks on the battlefield.
Soldiers fired into the air trying to shoot down drones after the blasts rocked central Kyiv. Residents fled for shelter. An anti-aircraft rocket could be seen streaking into the morning sky, followed by an explosion and orange flames.
The attacks came exactly one week after Russia unleashed its heaviest aerial bombardment of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since the start of the war – also during morning rush hour.
“All night and all morning, the enemy terrorizes the civilian population. Kamikaze drones and missiles are attacking all of Ukraine. A residential building was hit in Kyiv,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the Telegram messaging app.
“The enemy can attack our cities, but it won’t be able to break us. The occupiers will get only fair punishment and condemnation of future generations. And we will get victory.”
