They have been praised for their work on some of TV’s most sizzling sex scenes.
And now intimacy coordinators – like those consulted during the filming of Bridgerton and Normal People – have lifted the lid on the secrets to their success.
Speaking about their rather recent addition to film and television sets, a number of intimacy coordinators revealed the must have items in their ‘kit bags’ to ensure everything runs to plan.
Talking to Radio Times the coaches said they always ensure they are fully kitted with flesh-coloured underwear – to use as a modesty garment – mints – to ensure fresh breath – and heat pads to keep actors warm between takes.
Also in their kit bags is ‘mineral water spray and glycerine to create the impression of beads of sweat’.

Green tape makes its way into the must have list as it is used to make clear to camera operators the actors’ boundaries.
Their kit bags also contain small covers to protect a woman’s modesty and strapless underwear that sticks to a male actor’s pelvis holding body parts into place.
More film and television sets are introducing intimacy coaches in the wake of the MeToo scandal to ensure actors remain comfortable and within their set boundaries during the filming of intimate scenes.
Many have welcomed their arrival, though one coach, Mia Schachter, who has worked on Grey’s Anatomy, admitted she had been met by ‘resistance’ in some situations.

She added that it had mainly been ‘from female directors and actors’.

She told Radio Times: ‘My hunch is that, for some women, having me present means they have to examine their past experiences on set without an intimacy coordinator.
‘I’ve wondered if the introduction of this role challenges some people to look back and interrogate the ways in which they might not have recognised exploitation.’
Sonya Barnett, who is working on Guillermo del Toro’s film Nightmare Alley starring Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper, said: ‘There are a lot of people who are thankful for the rise in intimacy coordination and who have said that in the past they’ve had horrible experiences, like Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, who wasn’t expecting the role [of Daenerys Targaryen] to entail so much nudity.
‘Now, she is expected to do nudity in other roles.
‘The idea that because you said yes once, you’ll always do it falls in line with people who think that if you said yes to sex once, that consent will always be there.’
