‘Sensitive’ Royal Navy documents about nuclear sub found in Wetherspoons loo

Official Royal Navy documents have been found on the floor of a Wetherspoons pub toilet cubicle in Barrow-in-Furness.

The papers, marked "UK-OFFICIAL-SENSITIVE", contained information about HMS Anson – one of the navy's most advanced vessels – according to The Sun.

The documents were found at the Furness Railway pub, near to where the vessel was built, at the BAE Systems' shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

HMS Anson is a nuclear-powered fleet submarine with six torpedo tubes, currently located at His Majesty's Naval Base in Clyde, Scotland.

Sources have worried about what may have happened if the plans had fallen into the wrong hands.

The Royal Navy is investigating the incident, commenting that the misplaced reference manual was "generic", and unclassified.

In a statement, the Royal Navy spokesman commented: "These are generic training documents that carry no classified information.

"However, we take all security matters extremely seriously and will investigate the circumstances of their discovery."

"Official sensitive" documents are marked one level below secret.

Former sub captain, Commander Ryan Ramsay, commented: “It looks like someone has taken the pages off the boat to study.

“When they do their basic submarine qualification they have to walk round the boat to demonstrate they know all the systems.

“It is good to see their commitment to training, but the pub is probably the wrong place.”
