‘Skeletal’ human remains discovered in UK forest sparking heavy police presence

The skeletal remains of a person have been found near stables in an area of UK woodland.

A heavy police presence and cordon was spotted by locals at the scene in a wooded area in Fossway, Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne, at around 7pm on Thursday evening, ChronicleLive reports.

It is believed the remains found are skeletal and included a skull.

Officers attended the scene on Thursday and have remained in the area since.

A large area has been taped off and police cars could be seen parked nearby on Friday evening.

Locals took to social media to share their shock at the horror discovery, saying it appeared the body had been there "a while".

Northumbria Police have now confirmed they are in the process of identifying the individual, who was found near a stables off Waverdale Avenue.

The force confirmed the remains appeared to be of an adult human, as they said they are treating the death as unexplained at this stage.

It is believed the death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

Police remain at the scene, the force added in its statement.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At about 7pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report that adult human remains had been found in a wooded area in Fossway, Walker.

“We are currently in the process of identifying the individual and at this stage are treating their death as unexplained.

“Officers remain at the scene at this time.”
