Surveillance video has emerged of a Mexican overpass collapsing onto a busy roadway, sending a metro train flying to the ground in a crash that killed at least 20 people.
The horrible incident happened when a train passed through Olivos Station in Las Arboledas, Mexico City and a support column crumbled at around 10.30pm Monday (May 3).
The latest update states that 23 people were killed, including children, and 49 were hospitalised.
CCTV video shown on local channel Milenio TV showed the structure plummeting onto a stream of cars near Olivos station, sending up clouds of dust and rubble.
At least two train carriages are seen precariously hanging from the damaged overpass as emergency fire and medical crews rushed to the scene and searched for survivors.
They initially used ladders to access the carriages but Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said the rescue had been suspended "because the train is very weak".
A crane transported to the site was working to stabilise the train carriages so rescuers could resume their search to see "if there are more people inside the train car," she said.
In her latest tweet, she confirmed that there are "23 regrettable deaths" and added: "A structural review of the entire line 12 and an expert report and in-depth investigation of the causes begins of this unfortunate and serious incident.

The Mexico City Metro system has a total of 12 lines, officially known as the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo which is usually abbreviated to STC.
It's the second largest metro system in North America after the New York City Subway, with more than four million people using it to travel every day.
Line 12, which is the route involved in the deadly crash, was opened in nearly a decade ago in 2012.
