Law enforcement officials on Monday found the body of a third person believed to have been killed in a flash flood and mudslide that swept through Poudre Canyon last week amid heavy rainfall on the Cameron Peak fire’s burn scar.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 10 a.m. of a body in the Poudre River near mile marker 92, according to a news release. Drone operators, members of the agency’s dive team and other emergency responders recovered the body of an adult male at the location.
The man’s identity will be released by the Larimer County coroner at a later date. Two other bodies have been recovered in connection with Tuesday’s flooding northwest of Fort Collins.
On Monday, the coroner identified them as Patricia Brown, 59, of Madison, Wisconsin, and David Brown, 61 of San Antonio, Texas.
The coroner ruled Patricia Brown’s death an accidental drowning. The manner and cause of David Brown’s death have not been officially determined.
Authorities in the immediate aftermath of the disaster said one woman was dead and three people were missing. The water and debris also destroyed at least five homes and damaged Highway 14, which runs through the canyon.
One person remains missing, but there are no search operations planned for Tuesday, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The office said Sunday it had searched all obvious areas and would only conduct searches after receiving new information.
